Snapchat is by far my favorite social media platform. It is so versatile and fun to use. It is hard to remember a time before the two of us were in love. But this week a competitor was introduced into the temporary video/picture game, Instagram stories.
If you have not yet heard, Instagram tried to buy Snapchat a while back and the offer never went anywhere. Instagram decided if you can't buy them, copy them. This lead to an Instagram update with a new feature called "stories". Stories are basically the same exact thing as Snapchat but some different paint brushes when writing on pictures and videos. I won't say I hate Instagram stories, it seems to be a good idea for brands and companies since we are less likely to follow these guys on Snapchat but I for one will not be switching over to posting on Instagram.
I had already planned to make this post before Instagram Stories were released but with all the buzz this week it is definitely the perfect time for this post all about Snapchat and the secrets I have learned during our time together.
(#1) It is easy to find interesting Snapchatters
A lot of people get bored with Snapchat because they get bored with the people they follow. Sure, we all like our friends but that does not necessarily mean we can be entertained by their selfies alone. This is where the app GhostCodes comes in. GhostCodes is a website where you can advertise your Snap account and also check out others who are popular within different categories such as sports, beauty, and storytelling. You can upvote people by giving them Kudos and even download their snapcodes so you can easily follow them. I know Snapchat recently came out with a Snap account browsing system as well but it doesn't seem to have gained much popularity and I know little about it. I recommend GhostCodes though, I have found some really great Snappers and I now look forward to checking out everyone's stories everyday.
(#2) There are Snapchat "celebrities"
After following a few people on SC that I found randomly around the internet I started to see that there are certain people, just like on any other social media platform, that had become famous. I think a lot of times it's hard for these people to become well known because of Snapchats weird following system where you cannot see how many follows an account has. After I found ghostcodes it became pretty clear who these snapchat famous people are though. Pictured above are three people I have followed for a while MPLATCO, ginicanbreathe, and tiffy4u.

(#3) There is a trick to drawing on Snapchat
If you're like me you have probably wondered how the people who draw amazing things on Snapchat do it. It doesn't seem possible with clumsy fingers and a small phone screen. Well there is a secret that snap artist use and it involves magnifying your phone. To do this on the Iphone all you have to do is go to settings>general>accessibility> zoom and then turn your phones zoom on. After doing this open the snapchat app, pick the color you want, and double tap with three fingers. This will zoom your screen in and make it easier to draw. Now you still need to have a little ability but this definitely helps.
(#4) There are tons of hidden features in the settings menu
Most people know your have to go to settings to enable geofilters on SC but many don't know about the other hidden secrets in settings. If you go to where they ask for your birthday you can enable something called Birthday mode that puts a birthday cake next to your name on your special day and also gives everyone who snaps you a special birthday filter. There is also the often forgotten Snapcash where you can link your debit card with square (the same company that has the debit card swiping device that plugs into phones and tablets) and you can then snap money. Other features include enabling bit emoji (an avatar that looks like you that you can put in snaps) and a chart that explains all the emojis that appear next to people's names.
After learning some more cool stuff about Snapchat which side do you fall on? Snapchat or Instagram stories?
Until next time,
